Enago Launches its Book, English Idiot, I Hate You!
Book inspires authors who are trying to overcome barriers with the English language

September 25, 2017, New York: Enago, a leading provider of English language editing services for the global research community, is launching its book, English Idiot, I hate you!, which provides insight into how prominent researchers have overcome challenges with the English language to achieve publication success. Enago translated the book in the Korean language to motivate early-stage Korean researchers, students, and professors who have difficulties with the same issues.

The translated book is significant for Korean researchers, because they face challenges due to language barriers while getting their work published, since international journals accept research work that adheres to the international English language standards. Although it is one of the more monolingual countries in the world, Koreans face tremendous pressure to learn English.

While working closely with researchers for the successful publication of their work, Author Yuko Furuya, CEO of Enago Japan, realized the problems they experience with English as a second language. Knowing their challenges, she interviewed 12 leading researchers from Japan, including Shuji Nakamura, the 2014 Nobel Prize winner, and the first Japanese person to work at the Secretariat of the United Nations, to better understand researchers’ challenges emerging from language issues.

An initiative by Enago and published by Global Contents Publishing Group Co., Ltd., the book focuses on how these leading researchers overcame the challenges with the English language. Having published their papers in renowned international journals, the researchers shared their personal experiences and insights.

The title of this book, “English Idiot, I hate you!", is a result of an expression of Dr. Takeshi Yourou, an anatomist, who, during his interview, shared his frustration of how English had been a challenging part of his life since his school days. Renowned sociologist Dr. Chizuko Ueno explained in his interview that a researcher from countries where English is a second language can develop a valuable presence in the globalized academic world by acquiring the required language skill set.

Author Yuko Furia said, “I honestly think that every ESL (English as a second language) author needs the right guidance to achieve internationally acclaimed success. In order to offer that support, I embarked on the journey of creating 'English idiot, I hate you' while keeping all authors in mind. This book is a helping tool to all those who feel they don't belong in the publishing industry due to their lack of English language skills. Our book caters to the broader scientific community and makes them aware of the language barriers and ways to overcome them. In this journey, I received every support I needed from Enago to deliver this quality work for our readers.”

Speaking about the book launch, Sharad Mittal, CEO of Enago, said, “Knowing that we are the first to launch a book on this subject, we acknowledge our writer for disseminating knowledge to those in need. With the help of this book, we look forward to encourage authors for a successful publication. Keeping this as our primary motivation to constantly innovate and create such useful resources for all authors, Enago will continue to bring knowledge in any form possible to the world. With these resources, authors will be able to develop a valuable presence in the globalized academic world without English being a barrier.”

This book is available in offline and online bookstores, including Kyobo Book Centre, YOUNGPOONG  BOOKSTORE INC., Aladin, Seoul Book Center Co., Ltd.(BANDI&LUNI’s), Yes24, Interpark, and other general bookshops and wholesalers.
